IDC DAY ONE

Day one of IDC-

Late as usual… I got around on time, but somewhere between looking for required manuals that I haven’t seen in years, and my missing right dive boot, my early start turned into a late morning. Luckily, I’m off to Salt Lake with Theresa so being on time isn’t really a problem… even after ten years in the states, she’s still on island time.

So, IDC… Instructor Development Course, eight grueling days of classroom and pool work designed to prepare me for the PADI Instructor Evaluation exam, or I.E., which is a two day ordeal . This will be my first time in IDC, and Theresa’s second, though this time around she’s attending as a MSDT and here to gain credit for her IDC Staff Instructor.

Freddy packed the car, so things are arranged with surgical precision that will not last beyond Antelope Valley. Sack of munchies in hand and with a light heart we hit the road for Salt Lake.

I found out yesterday that I will have to retake my Dive Master exams, including such great old hits as “Dive Theory”, “Working With Certified Divers”, and my all-time favorite, “Physics”. This distresses me a little as I have not studied the Physics chapter since my DM exam. So, still optimistic, we crack the books and quiz each other on the Dive Master test.

Things were going along swimmingly until our friends Boyle, Henry and Gay-Lussac show up to put a damper on the fun. Our easy joviality quickly turns into tension as my third attempt to decipher a page of what looks like Egyptian cuneiform ends in failure and a headache. Discretion being the better part of valor and all, we decide to forego any further education till the ‘morrow and tune in Pandora.

Made it into Salt Lake without incident and took over my oldest son’s apartment. Oh, found Theresa’s purse. Okay, I left it on top of the truck in the rain, but still, we found it.

Tomorrow, more fun with physics and IDC orientation, WooHoo.
